Martina Penati holds a PhD in Veterinary and Animal Science (Doctor Europaeus) from the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science (DIVAS), University of Milan.
During her doctoral studies, she applied innovative approaches to improve the understanding and management of dairy ruminant mastitis.
She conducted part of her research abroad, collaborating with the Clinic for Ruminants at the University of Bern (Switzerland) and the Department of Preventive Veterinary Medicine at the Universidad Austral de Chile, gaining experience in the epidemiological and management aspects of udder health and animal welfare.
She is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in General Pathology at DIVAS, University of Milan.
She contributes to the MEDGOAT project, an international consortium promoting sustainable and resilient small ruminant farming in Mediterranean ecosystems, integrating One Health and diagnostic innovation strategies to enhance gut health and animal welfare in low-input farming systems.
In parallel, her research focuses on bacterial extracellular vesicles (BEVs) derived from mastitis-associated strains, using advanced techniques such as ultracentrifugation, size-exclusion chromatography, NTA, western blot, flow cytometry, and LC-MS/MS proteomics to explore their immunostimulatory potential and their influence on the host microbiota.
