
VAS Talk: Research progresses in animal nutrition and development prospect of livestock productions in China
The PhD school in Veterinary and Animal Sciences is pleased to invite you to the VAS Talk which will be delivered by Professor Xianren Jiang, Institute of Feed Research, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences titled “Research progresses in animal nutrition and development prospect of livestock productions in China”.
Dr. Xianren Jiang is Full Professor in animal nutrition at the Institute of Feed Research, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences located in Beijing. His research activity is focused on the application of nutritional strategies able to sustain health and growth of monogastric animals during critical phases of the cycle of production. He holds a PhD in Animal Nutrition gained in 2013 at the Department of Health, Animal Science and Food Safety of the University of Milan. He holds vast experience in feed additives supplementation with the aim of improving piglets’ gut health and reducing the use of antibiotics and pharmacological dosages of zinc oxide. To date, he is the referent for the joint action that allowed the establishment of the Joint Lab of Feed for Monogastric Animals realized between the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of the University of Milan and the Institute of Feed Research of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. He will be involved as Visiting Professor in different teaching activities at our department in May, therefore, he will take the chance to give us an overview of the most recent progresses of his research activity, talking about nutritional interventions useful in counterattacking post-weaning challenges in piglets rearing, reducing antimicrobial resistance spread, mitigating the environmental impact, and alternative feedstuffs applications. He will also have the opportunity to deliver a prospects of livestock productions development in China thanks to his extensive network of industrial collaborations and knowledge of the international feed sector.
