The present research has as general aim the study of bioactive compounds and their combinations for the development of innovative nutraceuticals with a view to the One Health.
The project activity, while ranging in different aspects of nutrition and biotechnological applications on in vitro and ex vivo models, will focus on the study of bioaccessibility, bioavailability and bioactivity of nutraceutical compounds considering the complexity of the intestinal environment, in compliance with the modern concept of the ecology of nutrition.
The natraceutical compounds will be tested using a biotechnological approach to predict their behavior within the complex interactions between host, pathogens and environmental factors often contributing causes of multifactorial pathologies.
This approach will make it possible to evaluate, develop and optimize the market positioning of innovative nutraceutical compounds for improving health and reducing the use of drugs according to the One Health approach. Furthermore, the acquisition of a solid scientific background will support the effectiveness of food supplements already in use, or of new development, emphasizing any associated “add-on therapy” aspects.
The link with the company will allow the full exploitation of the research products and aligns with the objectives of developing and promoting the “One Health” approach. The research will be carried out in collaboration with Uriach Italy, a giant company in the nutraceutical field that cares about health and sustainability for over 60 years associating them with constant innovation.
