The aim of the project is to study relevant molecular targets with prognostic and terapeutic significance in companion animal neoplasms.

In the first two years, the Early Stage Researcher (ESR) will learn data management and tissue collection for multiple analysis, including fresh samples for cytology, frozen samples for molecular analysis, RNA-later collection, formalin fixation and tissue processing.
In the II and III year the ESR will collect grading data, will evaluate the expression eg. of c-Kit and tyrosine kinases by learning how to perform and interpret the results of immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization and sequencing techniques.
In the third year the ESR will perform statistical analysis e and interpret the data identifying the molecules with prognostic and therapeutic implications. In the 3 years the ESR will learn how to perform bibliographic searches, present data, write scientific articles and will acquire skills related to planning and drafting projects.
Part of the project (case collection, molecular sequencing) will be carried out at the Pathology Department in Hannover, Germany.

Silvia Dell’Aere graduated in 2004 in Biological Sciences at the Polytechnic University of Marche, Ancona, with a thesis titled “Study on changes in the acoustic behavior of a female of Tursiops truncatus in the pre-pregnancy periods, during pregnancy and in the first semester of maternity “.
In 2005 she completed a post-graduate course as “Environmental science communicator” at Bicocca University, Milan, and from 2005 to 2016 she worked as an environmental and hiking guide in Italy, Greece and Egypt.
In 2020 she graduated in Veterinary Medicine at the State University of Milan (UNIMI) with a thesis entitled “Morphological and qualitative-quantitative study of PTX3 expression in canine placental tissue”.
From 2021 to 2022 she did a post-graduate internship at the Pathological Anatomy section of the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences (DIVAS) of the University of Milan (UNIMI), assisting in necropsy and histology and assisting in the research activity.
Since January 2022 she is an European College of  Veterinary Pathology (ECVP) resident and since October 2022 she is enrolled as PhD student in the PhD Course in Veterinary and Animal Sciences (DIVAS)  of the University of Milan (UNIMI).
Her research activity focuses on the study of histopathological lesions of the canine placentas, on the immunohistochemical and molecular characterization of soft tissue sarcomas in dogs and lymphomas in cats.
Author and co-author of two articles and 6 conference communications, she received the “Best Poster” award during the 75th SISVET Congress (May 2022) for the poster “Subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell / NK-cell Lymphoma (SPTCL) in six cats”.
