Sustainable dietary intervention in livestock: effects on health and product quality.
The aim of the project is to evaluate how innovative and sustainable dietary interventions affect animal’s health and welfare, also analysing the relationships between several stressors and animals’ physiological biomarkers and antioxidant status. Moreover, the quality parameters of the derived products will be evaluated.
Animal health is crucial to ensure a sustainable farming system, according with the One health and European Green Deal concept. Following the official ban of growth promoters’ antibiotics in animal feed, sustainable dietary interventions have become necessary to sustain animal performance and enhance their health, minimising the use of antimicrobials. Moreover, maintaining a good animal health, enhanced meat and product quality and safety.
So, the objective of the project is in line with the growing demand for a more sustainable feed and food system through the study of how sustainable ingredients or supplements could influence animal’s health and product quality parameters.
