Immunity and neoplasms in the dog: study of pathogenetic and therapeutic features.

The general aim of this research project is to deepen the knowledge of the complex crosstalk between immune system and neoplasms in dogs, and assess its possible clinical relevance.
The research activities will mainly be focused on the evaluation of the expression of check point molecules on neoplastic cells, and of plasmatic biomarkers of inflammation and immune response in dogs with different neoplasms. Data will be analyzed in order to investigate the possible association between those molecule expression and the outcome and prognosis of the oncological patient.
The PhD student will improve both her laboratory and clinical skills. Indeed, she will be involved in the clinical and surgical activities of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, in order to enrol and monitor cases for her research project. In addition, she will collect samples and analyse them with different laboratory techniques (i.e. flow cytometry, haematology, biochemistry, ELISA, molecular biology).
She will spend 3 to 6 months in a foreign Veterinary University in order to improve collection of samples of rare neoplasms, and further improve her clinical skills.
